Still very busy, but I took a breather moment to share the latest and greatest in 6mm sci-fi with you... Command Horizon (CH) has all kinds of new goodies coming!

Time for a quick update of what will be happening with the Command Horizon ranges this year!

Firstly, there is a new release. The first of the accessory packs for the Human Skim and Aerospace fighters is now available, enabling you to add extra armament to your models. Igor's already equipped a couple of units with them.

CHH23 - Aerospace Weapons Twelve (12) sprues per pack.

Upgrade your Skim Fighters and Aerospace Fighters with a range of aerospace Ordinance. These extra weapons can be attached to hard points on the undersides of the wings of the models. Each sprue contains:

Light Launcher Pack (LLP)
Light Anti-Aerospace Missile (LAAM)
Medium Anti-Aerospace Missile (MAAM)
Medium Aerospace-Surface Missile (MASM)

£3.30 including VAT
£2.80 ex-Vat

The New Year seems to have kicked in several dormant circuits in Igor's brain as he has been tied to his keyboard feverishly working away on updating the Command Horizon rules, and a new version is not far away now. This year, we will continue to expand both the Human and the Centaur ranges. Both will get more infantry variants, combat engineers and aerospace craft. There are also some very nice larger models for both races on the design bench, so be prepared for some spectacular additions later in the year.

2008 will also see us add the third race to the range. For all you fans of things that slither, the Worms are coming.

We'll be attending both the Vapnartak show in York on February 3rd and the Hammerhead SF and Fantasy show in Newark on February 10th. If you want to place any pre-orders, please do get in touch. If you want to ask any more questions about what we've got planned, come and have a chat.

If you keep up with something long enough, people eventually notice you no matter how much you might think you've gone unnoticed. In my case, I've been a hardcore 6mm gamer since the late 1970s although I didn't really crank it up until the 1980s. Along the way, I've written a number of smaller sets of rules, tried to release a much larger commercial set of rules which is on hold, been credited in a GW / Specialist Games product, been credited in a Mongoose product, been credited in a Baccus product, established the largest 6mm Yahoo E-group EVAH! (...almost over 2,000 members), established many more Yahoo E-groups, painted hundreds of 6mm models, helped playtest lots of other 6mm rules, played lots of games, and generally had a ball!.

TOP: New FLABs AKA Centauroids with APCs.

We've been promising to release some infantry for the Centaurs for some while now. I'm pleased to be able to say that not only are the FLAB infantry now available, but we've also released two Armoured Personnel Carriers for them. A Light and a Medium version. And to be even-handed, the Humans get some Air-support with the addition of a Fighter.

We're also working away on the next update to the CH rules themselves which will allow you use the Centaur modules and infantry to full effect. We've been chatting about Combat Engineers some really nasty Area Denial rules and all sorts of goodies. As ever, there's still lots more yet to come in the Command Horizon ranges.

I've long been of fan of Peter's and am very happy to see the Baccus brand name attached to a new 6mm sci-fi game. I've participated in the development of the game contributing to the background and game mechanics although I can confidently say that the existing Command Horizon rule set is primarily the genius work of Peter and his chief caster AKA henchman, Igor. And, of course, the fans like myself have been a big part of the development of the game as well!

His new FLABs AKA Centauroids are very cool 6mm sci-fi aliens and the accompanying range of miniatures is outstanding... He's already done more with this range than Gladiator did in all the years they had it.

And, oh... what's a FLAB? Here's the background story:

Over the last couple of months you’ve witnessed the release of a number of Centaur vehicles - but what about the beings behind them? Why are they called ‘Centaurs’ and where do they come from?

Their full story is yet to be published. What was known of them prior to the first and devastating contact of 2607 came to us from the Intelligence Service of the secretive ‘Sisters of Galactic Enlightenment’.

Their contact was the result of tenuous and as yet undisclosed forms of communication with the aliens. It was from these initial impressions that the term ‘Centaur’ first came into use. Little of the physical appearance was apparent from the contact other than that they were quadrupeds with two arms and bilateral symmetry. It proved too tempting to link them to the Centaur race of ancient Greek Mythology and that name was adopted. In fact this proved to be spurious as their appearance proved to be nothing like the half-man, half-horse of legend.

It’s not known who first coined the term ‘FLABs’ for the Centaurs. It certainly originated in the military and was in wide usage from the very earliest campaigns against them. The origin is as a simple acronym, whose most acceptable rendering is ‘Four Legged Alien Beings’. It is an absolute certainty that the original wording was less ‘correct’ in its language.

Warmaster Nice of The Epic Lounge shared some great photos of the new 6mm zombies coming out for the Exodus Wars 6mm sci-fi miniatures line:

I got a chance to breeze through the Epicomms forums earlier this week (Link on tight sidebar) and found the above photos of cool 6mm zombies from my buddy, Warmaster Nice. Exodus Wars is using that wonderful sculptor, Bob Naismith, as is Dark Realm Miniatures. These 6mm zombies have wonderful character although some miniatures gamers don't like the high proportion of "child zombies" or "zombie hobbits" in the forthcoming unreleased pack.

I can think of one other source for 6mm zombies off the top of my head: "Z scale" railroad figures. They make good civilians or, with a little "graveyard skin pallor," make good zombies as well.

2. 6mm Ork Bommaz!

TOP: The sculpts really remind me of the WWII German Me-323 Gigant.

Forgeworld came out with no less than three different sculpts for their new Ork Bomma... and they're all magnificent! Apparently all three sculpts have mix and match pieces to increase the amount of variety available. They're more than a bit pricey at 12 Pounds Sterling each (...Roughly twenty-four US Dollars), but they're unique sculpts with lots of character.

Reminds me of C-130s dropping Daisy Cutters in 'Nam.

And way back around the time Epic-Armageddon was being playtested, I built some of my own Ork Bommaz for the playtest version of Ork Bommas, which were later removed from the game. Typical GW, first they come up with a wonderful idea, then cut it out of the game and then bring it back again. Experimental rules for the Ork Bomma in Aeronautica Imperialis (...but not Epic-Armageddon) are available from Forgeworld. I couldn't find any painted photos of my home-made version, but I did find a work bench shot:

TOP: My home-made Ork Bommas built several years ago.

It's made from a BFG Ork Ramship with Ork Fighta wings and 1/285 GHQ ordinance. I built half a dozen variants of this model, which happily bombed Chern's Space Marines to oblivion back in the good ol' days of Epic-Armageddon.

Bans has done it again and imagineered something fantastic from cobbled-together trash with a few bitz to embellish that less flashy parts. Bans astonishes me with his creativity!

Here's Bans' commentary:

Bans: Here you have my latest dropship! It was born from the synthesis of:
- The paper from some used (burned-out) firecrackers for the hull and engines.
- Two cannons provided by Otterman (Thanks, Otterman!).
- Some paint...
- And a little glue!

Bans: Very easy and cheap!!
The main idea is that we can IMAGINE anything with any material!

One of my favorite forums on the 'Net is the Epicomms forum... Because I meet all kinds of nice folks there. And among those nice folks has been a unfailingly kind and talented fellow who goes by the nickname Bans. And Bans is TRULY talented. And not only does he share my passion for miniatures, but he's a talented illustrator as well... and has recently contributed a number of sketches to the latest version of Net Epic, the online community's version of the classic Epic Space Marine / Epic 40k game.

Remember the GW old days?

I made these dropships thinking about those days, when any bottle could be a city, a tank or whatever you imagined. The project was stopped because I'm now really satisfied with the paint job. Now I think that the two dropships look really fine. They aren't a great models, but they were easy and cheap to make.

The components list to make two cheap Imperial dropships:

- Two birds food box, or any plastic / card box...
- Card paper from the packets that you received via postal service (...the United States postal service boxes are the best!) with it you can cut the wings.
- Green stuff to finish the model.
- White wood glue to paint all the model when it's glued.

And here you have the results:

GAMING NEWS: Command Horizon & Maksim's Gaming!

Hi Everyone,

Despite my myriad chores and lack of enough gaming, this past weekend wasn't a total loss...

I spent part this past weekend beating a video game, something I haven't done in several years. My roommate succesfully got me hooked on a computer game almost four months ago; he got me interested in Knights of The Old Republic, a Star Wars roleplaying game that came out way back in 2003. Since then a sequel has come out and even another sequel is rumored to be out sometime next year. Parts of the game were pedantic, but overall, I enjoyed the experience. The music and graphic were spot on... it very much captured the experience of being in a Star Wars movie... at least as I imagined it!

I'll put and end to the waiting and speculation and announce that I've finally released the Command Horizon SF range and it is now available. Very shortly I'll be unveiling a brand new web site devoted solely to the CH range, but for the moment you'll be able to find all the information on the models and the prices if you visit the Baccus site.

As well as the models themselves we'll be producing a range of accessories and scenics. The first of these can be found at the above link and is a range of pre-cast bases with different surface finishes. We've been using these ourselves for mounting the demonstration models and they work great, saving loads of time and effort and producing a great end result.

And because we all want to play games with our little men and little tanks we've even produced a set of rules to allow you to do just that. These are currently available as a FREE pdf download which you can access from the Baccus site.

These releases don't indicate that we've stopped work on the range - far from it. Planning is already well underway for more human releases and the first of the Alien races. We hope you enjoy both the models and the rules. We've had a great time working on both.

I have also been very busy with a hobby project that I never expected to ever get involved with: I'm building a WHFB (Warhammer Fantasy Battles) army in 28mm... oh, heretical scale!

My friend Nils invited me to join him in a game and when I learned that Thomas Foss, one of the big kahunas of Flagship Games was involved as well as Aron Clark, Dirtside II and ASQL (Alien Squadleader) maestro, I couldn't turn them down. Additionally, Harry and Terry of Screaming GIs fame, recently got interested in WHFB and if two seriously dedicated historicals nuts like them can get involved, why can't I?

Not long after I considered getting involved, A-1 Comics on Sunrise had a huge sale of Reaper miniatures so I picked up a ton of Reaper's beautifully cast 28mm Razig's Revenge undead pirates at a steal, or should I say plunder! ...too cool.

I've been working on that army since. This past weekend, I stopped by Michaels, a craft shop, to pick up a little bag of seashells to put on the bases of the figures. I'm going for the whole "Pirates of the Carribean" undead pirate theme.

And to think that Bill from the former Hobby Workshop game store spent years trying to convince me to buy into a WHFB army. He almost had me sold when he told me I could build a Tomb Kings army based on the ancient Hebrews complete with an Ark of the Covenant. I miss that old shop... it was full of character and... um, characters! LOL
